Thursday's Constitution Day Celebration, honoring the 239th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, at the Seawalk Pavilion broke with tradition. Instead of gathering on the lawn, speakers and audience sat together on the pavilion's stage, out of the harsh Florida sun.

No advance registration is required for Saturday’s cleanup. Site captains will be on hand at each location with gloves and trash bags. Participants must be 18 or older, or accompanied by an adult, and students can receive community service hour certificates from site captains.
The effort is designed to be "educational, direct, and highly local," explaining the value of city services "without telling residents how to vote or what conclusion to reach about property-tax policy."
