Volunteers across the Jacksonville area, including several sites at the Beaches, will take part Saturday in the 2026 International Coastal Cleanup, an annual global effort to remove trash and debris from shorelines, lakes and rivers.
The local event is coordinated by Keep Jacksonville Beautiful in partnership with the Ocean Conservancy, which organizes the cleanup worldwide on the third Saturday of every September. Since the first ICC in 1986, nearly 20 million volunteers have removed more than 405 million pounds of trash from beaches and waterways globally. In results released in August from last year’s cleanup, Ocean Conservancy volunteers worldwide collected more than 1.3 million plastic bottles and nearly 886,000 bottle caps, the most and third-most common items found.
No advance registration is required for Saturday’s cleanup. Site captains will be on hand at each location with gloves and trash bags. Participants must be 18 or older, or accompanied by an adult, and students can receive community service hour certificates from site captains.
Jacksonville Beach
