Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Beach Gazette, and who owns it?

Beach Gazette is an independent, nonprofit community newspaper serving Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, Mayport and Ponte Vedra Beach. We are published by Beaches News, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization incorporated in Florida. Learn more at beachgazette.org/governance

Is Beach Gazette free?

Yes. Every story we publish is free to read. We believe access to local news is a public good. Readers who want to support our work can become Supporters, but support is never required to read the Gazette.

Where can I read Beach Gazette?

Beach Gazette publishes online at beachgazette.org and distributes a weekly digital edition by email. Beach Buzz, our monthly print edition, will be distributed at locations throughout the Beaches. Look for Beach Buzz this fall.

Will Beach Gazette be in print?

Yes, in the future. Beach Buzz will be our monthly print publication, distributed across the Beaches community and available free at local pickup locations.

Our goal is to grow into printing every weekly edition of Beach Gazette. Help us get there by becoming a Supporter and spreading the word.

Will you publish obituaries?

Yes. Beach Gazette is planning to begin publishing obituaries soon. Check beachgazette.org or follow us on social media for updates.

Do you have a police beat or crime coverage?

Beach Gazette will be adding a police beat this year. Stay tuned.

How do I send a letter to the editor?

Email your letter to editor@beachgazette.org. Letters should be under 300 words and include your full name. We do not publish anonymous letters. Beach Gazette reserves the right to edit letters for length, clarity and style. Submission does not guarantee publication.

How do I pitch a story or share a news tip?

If you have a tip, a story idea or information you think the Gazette should know about, email editor@beachgazette.org.

How do I submit a community calendar event?

Send event details, including the name, date, time, location and a brief description, to calendar@beachgazette.org. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. Including a contact name and phone number or website helps us verify details.

How do I submit a photo or announcement?

Photos and community announcements can be sent to editor@beachgazette.org. Please include a caption with each photo identifying the people pictured and the occasion. High-resolution images (at least 300 dpi) are preferred for print consideration.

I’m a reader. How do I support Beach Gazette?

Become a Supporter. It is the most direct way to sustain independent local journalism at the Beaches. Supporters receive the weekly Beach Gazette digital edition by email and are recognized as members of our community.
