Calendar of events for July 24-30
We’re in the thick of summer, and pretty soon the kids will be back in school, the Jags and the rest of the NFL will kick off their season and we'll be looking toward fall and the holidays. But we’re not there yet, my friends — there’s still plenty of time for beach days, barbecues and warm summer nights. We’re all used to the heat by now, so get on those beach cruisers and go for a bike ride to any or all of the following local events.
Atlantic Beach
Start off your Sunday at 9 a.m. is Yoga In the Park, with a free one-hour yoga class at Jack Russell Park. It’s an outdoor, community-centered yoga flow perfect for stretching before the heat of the day.
Do yourself a favor Sunday, July 26, from 6 to 6-8 p.m. and post up on the lawn at Bull Park, outside of the Adele Grage Cultural Center, for Acoustic Night — a showcase of the Beaches’ finest local musicians. Bring your own snacks or take advantage of the food truck on site.
At 6 p.m. on Friday, July 24, the Back Bar, located behind Be-In Bridal, will host the Paper Hare, a mobile indie bookstore. The event will feature delicious drinks and live music from Howdy — a fantastic musician and a wonderful human. This combination is not to be missed.
Neptune Beach
Check out the Neptune Beach Farmers Market at Neptune Beach Elementary from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. every Sunday. There is plenty of parking, shaded space for shopping, a variety of vendors and a playground for the kids.
Brewhound Dog Park will hold a “Christmas In July” party from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 25th. Santa will pose in exchange for donations to Fur Sisters, a local nonprofit that finds forever homes for doggies. There will be themed food, a silent auction, snow and live music by Alyse Dione.
Jacksonville Beach
Pick up some fresh produce, local honey, plants and other delights at the Beaches Green Market, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.every Saturday at Penman Park in Jacksonville Beach.
904 PopUp is holding one of its popular events from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 26, at the SeaWalk Pavilion and Latham Plaza. Enjoy browsing vendors of all kinds: food, art, crafts and small businesses. It’s a great opportunity to do some shopping, support local businesses and spend some quality time outside with your people.
Check out the Jax Beach Classic Car Cruise from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28. You’ve got to love classic cars and the people who keep them on the road. Take your kids so they can see what manual transmissions, window cranks and ignition switches that take actual keys look like in person.
Cara and her Blue Jay Listening Room always bring great music, and this week is no exception. I’m liking the album release show from Grammy-nominated electric violinist Carole Mayedo and her band . Doors at 7 p.m. / Show at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 25.
