Helllllloooooo, August! We're getting into peak summer heat, but don't let that stop you from getting out of the house and into something interesting to do. Whether you live here or you're just visiting, that summer heat is part of the Florida experience. It builds character, and it makes that first October cold front all the more delicious.
Atlantic Beach
Rambler Kane: Catch an indoor singer-songwriter concert at 6 p.m. Friday, July 31, at The Back Bar at Be-In in Atlantic Beach. He's fantastic, a genuinely nice guy who makes good music. I haven't made it to the Be-In yet, it's on my short list, but it's great to see another live music venue at the beaches. Tickets cost $24.36.
The Northern Exposure Band: Rock out to classic and party rock cover sets at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, during the band's venue debut at Bedlam on Mayport Road.
Neptune Beach
Sada Davidson Live: Catch a dynamic acoustic performance from local singer-songwriter Sada Davidson at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Sliders Oyster Bar in Neptune Beach. While you're there, get the crab cakes and key lime pie. They're legendary.
I'll never stop plugging summer movie nights every Thursday at Brewhound. This week it's “How to Train Your Dragon.”
Jacksonville Beach
Back to School Supply Drive: Support local families at this ninth annual community fundraiser hosted by the James Russell Fund, featuring food specials, silent auctions and raffles, at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Monkey's Uncle Tavern in Jacksonville Beach.
“The Play That Goes Wrong”: Laugh at a hilarious, chaotic performance by a fictional theater troupe failing to put on a 1920s murder mystery at 8 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Players by the Sea in Jacksonville Beach. The show runs through Aug. 9.
The Blue Jay Round: Experience a songwriter circle featuring Rambler Kane, Roadie, Sasha and Jeremiah French, and Robbie Dammit at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6 (doors at 7 p.m.), at the Blue Jay Listening Room in Jacksonville Beach.
